On the morning of 18 June 2024, the unveiling ceremony of the National Mine Safety Administration Key Laboratory for Coal Burst Prevention Technology and Equipment (hereinafter as the Key Laboratory) was held at Shandong Energy Group, which signals that the very first national key laboratory specialized in coal burst prevention and control was formally being put into scientific operation. It is worth mentioning that the Key Laboratory was jointly established by Shandong Energy Group, Shandong University of Science and Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, Institute of Geophysics, and China Earthquake Administration.
Zhou Dechang, Member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the National Mine Safety Administration, and Li Wei, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Chairman of SDE jointly unveiled the key laboratory and delivered a speech respectively. Other attending guests include Pan Yishan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Secretary of the Party Committee of Liaoning University, who made his presence and delivered a speech. The establishment of the Key Laboratory itself is of strategic importance in that it shoulders the responsibilities of supporting and guaranteeing the safe and highly-efficient mining in the coal mining industry.
The Key Laboratory will stay dedicated to the safe mining trial in the deep underground coal mines with a special focus on the studies of key technologies around the governance of coal burst, including the assessment of coal burst hazards, effect test of prevention, as well as the monitoring, early warning and relevant equipment technologies. By innovating the engineering practice and theory, the Key Laboratory aims to secure innovative technologies, practices and theories so as to provide technical support for the high-quality development of the industry.
In his speech, Pan Yishan pointed out that the establishment of the Key Laboratory is a significant milestone in China's mine safety research field. It holds great importance for solving key technical challenges and promoting high-quality development in the coal industry. He emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation to promote the widespread application of coal-burst prevention technology and equipment, advancing coal-burst prevention to a new level in China.
Li Wei stated that SDE will deepen its cooperation with higher education institutions, support the development and result commercialization of the Key Laboratory, and build it into an essential platform for basic research, technological breakthroughs, and talent cultivation. It is hoped to thereby provide strong support for improving safety production in the coal industry.
The Key Laboratory has set two main bases: one located in Jinan at the Shandong Energy Science and Innovation Park and another at the Dongtan Coal Mine of Yankuang Energy. It boasts plenty of advanced equipment and extensive experimental space, providing favourable conditions for scientific experiments and technical training. The Key Laboratory is dedicated to innovation and the transformation of achievements in coal burst prevention technology. Through big data analysis, practical training, and the results application, the site can create continuous momentum for the industrial development.

During the event, participants made an on-site inspection of the Shandong Energy Group's practical training base for coal burst prevention.
