Shandong Energy has built the first industrial demonstration facility for indirect coal liquefaction producing 1 million tons of oil per year and a demonstration facility for high-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis with capacity of 100,000 t/a. Also a number of high-end chemical parks has been built, such as Lunan Chemicals, Ordos Rongxin Chemicals, Yulin Methanol Plant, Xinjiang Alcohol and Ammonia Co-generation. Shandong Energy's total production capacity of chemical products exceeds 15 million t/a, the synergetic production and sales volume of methanol ranks first in China, the production of high-end polyformaldehyde ranks second domestically, and the production capacity of acetic acid ranks among the top three in the industry.

Shandong Energy has become the only domestic enterprise that masters high-temperature and low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology. The 100,000 t/a Fischer-Tropsch wax finishing project broke the foreign monopoly. The large-scale and high-efficiency coal-water slurry gasification technology with daily processing of 3,000 tons of coal won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. "4000-ton super-large coal water slurry gasification technology demonstration facilty" which is the national major science and technology project was successfully tested, reaching the world's leading level.

Focusing on "large-scale, high-end, industrial park oriented, and terminalization" and scientifically planning the development path of the "14th Five-Year Plan", Shandong Energy will make full use of the two national platforms of coal gasification and coal liquefaction to facilitate exploration the integrated development of coal chemical, petrochemical and salt chemical.
