On the afternoon of April 24, the symposium of heads of large coal enterprises in China was held in Beijing. The meeting studied and analyzed the current operation of the coal industry, made greater efforts to ensure energy supply, and contributed to promoting the high-quality development of the coal industry and accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation. Liang Jiakun, Chairman of China National Coal Association, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Li Wei, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Chairman of SDE, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Liang Jiakun expressed his gratitude to coal companies for their long-term support for the work of the Association. He pointed out that in recent years, the reform and development of the coal industry has made hard-won achievements. In the battle to ensure the energy supply and stablize coal prices, coal enterprises have bravely shouldered the heavy responsibility and play a key role in China's energy security.
At the symposium, Li Wei analyzed the developments, opportunities and challenges of the coal industry, and proposed four suggestions: make four-pronged efforts to grasp the market initiative, implement targeted policies to promote the transformation and upgrading of coal mines, optimize the coal-based industrial chain, and cooperate to enhance comprehensive energy strength.
Regarding the development direction of SDE’s energy sector, Li Wei said that with coal as the "stabilizer" and "ballast" of China’s energy security, we must strengthen the clean and efficient utilization of coal, insist on the principle of establishing the new before replacing the old, promote the optimization of coal and new energy, give full play to the basic role of coal enterprises, and firmly hold the rice bowl of energy within our own hands.
As a state-owned capital investment company, SDE will earnestly advance revolutions in energy consumption, energy supply, energy technology and energy system, and strengthen international cooperation in response to General Secretary Xi Jinping's energy security strategy. In addition, SDE will resolutely assume the major responsibilities of ensuring energy supply, and optimizing energy portfolio and layout so as to ensure social and economic stability.
Li Wei said that SDE will further boost its coal business and fully tap the supportive function of coal in the energy mix, through measures of optimizing the regional industry layout, coordinating the domestic and international markets and resources, and releasing the advantageous production capacity while shutting down backward coal mines. With a focus on the green and low-carbon development, SDE will make every effort to optimize the energy structure, and extend its industrial chain in the coal sector and beyond while complying with "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goals. As a major SOE, SDE also resolutely takes up its political and social responsibility in ensuring energy supply, stabilizing energy prices, and guaranteeing energy security. SDE will always prioritize safety over production, economic benefits and development, and pay equal emphasis on the management, equipment and system upgrading, as well as staff competency enhancement.
