On 17 May, SDE held an expert consultation meeting in Beijing for its Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Action Plan. The meeting invited academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, including Yuan Shiyi, Huang Weihe, and Ge Shirong, as well as Wu Yin, former Deputy Director of National Energy Administration, along with other industrial experts to discuss the pathway for SDE's green, low-carbon, and high-quality development.
In his speech, Li Wei, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Chairman of SDE, stated that in recent years, SDE has conscientiously implemented Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological conservation and fully and faithfully executed the major strategic decisions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. Invariably, SDE regards carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as a significant opportunity to meet the trend of energy development and build a clean energy supplier. SDE follows to the concept of basing on coal, relying on coal, extending coal, and surpassing coal, while exploring new paths, models, and mechanisms, making solid steps towards developing new quality productive forces and achieving a green, low-carbon transition.
Li Wei emphasized that China's ecological conservation endeavour is in a crucial period with carbon reduction as a strategic imperative and a shift of control from energy consumption to carbon emissions, which not only imposes urgent requirement for traditional energy enterprises to realize transformation and upgrading development, but also provides strategic opportunities to foster new, green, low-carbon productive forces.
SDE will advocate the dual carbon strategy, integrate it into the entire process of reform and development, optimize industrial structure layout, and implement technological R&D innovation and green low-carbon circular transformation. More efforts will be made to reduce energy intensity and controlling total quantity, advance carbon reduction, pollution reduction, and green growth in a balanced manner, accelerate the green low-carbon transition and high-quality development to contribute to achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
Li Wei appreciated valuable opinions and suggestions from the academicians and experts on SDE's dual carbon work. Based on that, SDE will earnestly revise and improve the action plan, strengthen top-level design, and formulate more feasible measures to ensure the detailed execution of all tasks regarding carbon peak and carbon neutrality. During the meeting, Zhang Yousheng, Deputy Director of the Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission, delivered a speech.
Liu Qiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Vice General Manager of SDE, presided over the meeting. The attending experts unanimously agreed that the research methodology is clear, science-based, systematic and in-depth, with forward-looking and innovative significance. The conclusions and suggestions proposed are highly targeted and feasible, providing substantial support and reference for SDE's related decisions. The expert panel agreed to conclude the project as acceptance.
