On December 31, Shandong’s first big-size, commercialized single-junction perovskite photovoltaic cell was successfully manufactured at the pilot workshop of SDE’s “Single-Junction Perovskite Photovoltaic Cell Preparation and 100 MW Production Line Integration Technology Demonstration Project”. This achievement marks the completion and commissioning of Shandong’s first 100 MW perovskite photovoltaic cell pilot production line by SDE. The milestone event was joined by Sun Haisheng, Party Secretary and Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and Li Wei, Party Secretary and Chairman of SDE.
Sun Haisheng highlighted that the successful manufacturing of the first 100 MW perovskite photovoltaic cell represents a significant progress to accelerate energy transition and promote high-quality green development in Shandong. Over the past year, Shandong Provincial Government has prioritized this project, with the Department of Science and Technology looking after its implementation. SDE completed the construction of facilities and the pilot production line in record time—67 days to build the workshop from scratch, 55 days for building clean room, and 120 days from equipment procurement to installation. The project was achieved six months ahead of schedule. Moving forward, the Department of Science and Technology will strengthen key technological planning, promote technical upgrades, and ask project participants to focus on cutting-edge technology to ensure over-achievement and commercialization.
Li Wei stated that the successful production of the first 100 MW perovskite photovoltaic cell is a pivotal measure for SDE in implementing the “carbon peak and carbon neutrality” strategy and fostering new-quality productive forces. It also reflects SDE's commitment to building a new energy system. Moving ahead, SDE will leverage this milestone as an opportunity to intensify research investment, enhance photoelectric conversion efficiency and product stability, and steadfastly establish itself as a benchmark enterprise for perovskite photovoltaic cell. SDE aims to contribute significantly to the transformation and green growth in the energy sector.
Perovskite photovoltaic cells, as third-generation solar cells, enjoys high photoelectric conversion efficiency, flexibility in production, capability to generate power under low light, simplified manufacturing processes, and low raw material costs. These attributes enable broad application prospects and significant market potential. The newly-developed cell overcomes the challenge of large-area perovskite photovoltaic cell fabrication, with a single cell area of 0.72 square meters and a conversion efficiency exceeding 15%. In stacked configurations, the theoretical conversion efficiency could reach up to 45%, outperforming the current 25% efficiency of crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells.
