On the morning of January 9th, SDEG and Huawei announced to establish a Joint Innovation Center, which marks a new stage of higher-level and substantive cooperation between the two sides, having far-reaching implications on promoting the transformational upgrading of the coal industry and making SDEG smarter.
Ling Wen, Member of the Party Group of Shandong Provincial People’s Government and Vice Governor of Shandong, Xin Guanglong, Secretary and Director of National Mine Safety Administration Shandong Bureau, Zhang Bin, Party Secretary and Director of Shandong SASAC, Sun Bin, Member of the Party Group of Jinan Municipal Government and Deputy Mayor of Jinan, Gao Fang, Member of the Party Group of and the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Shandong Province and Deputy Director of it, Xu Bo, the second-level inspector of the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province, Wang Fudong, Member of the Party Group of Energy Administration of Shandong Province, Li Wei, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Chairman of SDEG, Zhang Baocai, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Director and General Manager of SDEG, and Zou Zhilei, Senior Vice President of Huawei and Chairman of Huawei Coal Mine Legion, attended the meeting.
Ling Wen acclaimed the establishment of Joint Innovation Center in his speech. He hoped that both sides will remember the instruction of General Secretary Xi Jinping, think in big picture terms, and take the technology-driven approach to empower the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, as a way to strengthen the digital economy and the clean and efficient utilization of coal. By doing so, national energy security can be ensured and low-carbon, high-efficient and green development achieved. The Joint Innovation Center should meet the needs of the coal mining industry and the challenges of digital transformation and deep-rooted problems in coal mines.
It is imperative for the Center to lead by example through taking the lead across the industry, integrating its services into the new development paradigm, enhancing the creativity of economic and social development, and promoting the high-quality development of scientific and technological innovation.
It should aim to become a provincial-level laboratory and make its way into in major national science and technology projects, until it grows into a pathfinder and a demonstrator in the industry.
On behalf of Shandong SASAC, Zhang Bin congratulated on the establishment of Joint Innovation Center. He said that Shandong SASAC sets store by digital transformation. As a provincial backbone enterprise, SDEG should strive to deepen the integration of industrial Internet, big data, AI, 5G and other new infrastructure with the coal industry, improve the traditional coal industry, and boost its digital development, together with other provincial enterprises. It is hoped SDEG and Huawei will make full use of this important platform, fully unleash the synergetic advantages of two Fortune Global 500 companies, and accelerate the in-depth integration of information technology and traditional industries. More work remains needed to break through bottlenecks that restrict the digital development of industries, create a demonstration model for digital transformation, and make greater contributions to building Shandong into a socialist modernized powerhouse for the new era.
Li Wei stressed that SDEG and Huawei are long-term partners with sound relationship. On December 6, 2021, the comprehensive strategic partnership was formally established through the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement in Shenzhen. Based on their respective industrial advantages, SDEG and Huawei plan to conduct cooperation in fields of digital transformation, mine intelligence, equipment manufacturing, new energy, industrial digitization, talents training and others. Prior to the establishment of the Joint Innovation Center, which is positioned as the cooperation platform for SDEG and Huawei, more than 20 joint innovation topics have been selected on Mine HarmonyOS, AI and other key areas, which remain to be further explored to promote digital transformation.
SDEG will provide all-round support for the operation and development of the Joint Innovation Center, actively explore innovative digitization through close collaboration with Huawei and efficiently promote the in-depth application and integration of IOT, big data, AI, 5G, F5G and other ICTs in the total factors, the whole industry chain as well as the whole value chain. It is believed that under support of Shandong Provincial People’s Government, CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and the competent authorities, the Joint Innovation Center will bear fruitful achievements and become a model case that features strong alliance and win-win results through sincere and close cooperation between SDEG and Huawei.
Zou Zhilei said that the Joint Innovation Center set up by SDEG and Huawei will introduce 20 topics in 7 major areas including intelligent mine standards, Mine HarmonyOS, industrial digitization, AI, intelligent manufacturing, new energy and talents training. In the meanwhile, the Joint Innovation Center will gather talent resources from Huawei University (including Hangzhou training center) and Huawei Coal Mine Corps and input over 30 experts to develop altogether 18 courses in 3 categories covering management and technology training for the purpose of facilitating SDEG in building a joint training mechanism that cultivates comprehensive talents with multiple industrial inside knowledge for the future and reserving talents team. SDEG has joined hands with Huawei to increase R&D investment, promote innovation, aggregate ecology and empower industry for the ultimate purpose of achieving digital and intelligent transformation and upgrading in the coal industry.
Jiang Wangcheng, Chief Executive in coal mine solutions from Huawei Coal Mine Corps, introduced the cooperation areas and research topics to be carried out by the Joint Innovation Center.

It is known that through the Joint Innovation Center, SDEG and Huawei will promote the digital transformation of the energy industry and support the high-quality development of state-owned enterprises represented by SDEG by conquering an array of leading industrial technologies, developing a number of industrial digitization standards and training a batch of innovative talents in digitization from key areas such as industrial Internet and intelligent mine construction, etc.
