On the morning of July 6, the unveiling ceremony of China-Caribbean Development Center and China-Caribbean Development Conference was held in Shandong Building in Jinan. Li Ganjie, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, Xie Feng, Vice Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and China-based diplomatic envoys from Caribbean countries attended the event and delivered respective speeches.

Secretary Li Ganjie and Guyana Ambassador to China, Anyin Choo jointly inaugurated the Center. Zhang Haibo, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Secretary-General of the Committee, presided over the event. Yu Haitian, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jinan Municipal Committee and Mayor of Jinan, outlined the development vision of the Center.

Zhang Baocai, the Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee, Director and General Manager of SDE, attended the conference and delivered a speech. He said that SDE is not only one of the most international energy enterprises in China, but also the first Chinese enterprise that successfully implemented "go global" strategy and realized overseas resources development. With its investment in Latin America totaled over USD50 million, SDE has been committed to infrastructure construction, metal mines development and environmental protection, adding over 1,000 jobs for the locals. Actively engaged in education, medical and other public welfare undertakings in Ecuador, SDE has co-founded educational institutions to conduct vocational training, which has not only benefited the local people, but also consolidated SDE’s positive image.

According to Zhang Baocai, the Caribbean is the natural extension of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and an important participant of the Belt and Road Initiative. This conference provides a platform for Chinese enterprises to make in-depth contacts with Caribbean countries, and the establishment of China-Caribbean Development Center in Shandong province provides a first-mover advantage for Shandong enterprises to participate in Caribbean cooperation and development. SDE will see the Conference as an opportunity to take advantage of the already invested industry in the America, and seek potentials for common development in the "eight key areas", including energy, chemical industry, high-end equipment, logistics and trade, green development and etc., so as to benefit the people of both sides in a broader scope. SDE undertakes to make its own contribution to tap the complementary advantages and pursue common development of China and the Caribbean.
