On the morning of July 13, the 4th China Hydrogen Production and Hydrogen Industry Conference, jointly hosted by China Coal Processing & Utilization Association, Shandong Energy Group, and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, was held in Jinan. Participants discussed about the latest technologies and applications of hydrogen production, storage, processing and transportation, and explored new ways of de-carbonization both in energy and industry.

Wang Xianzheng, Honorary President of China National Coal Association and Director of China Coal Industry Technical Committee, Ling Wen, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice Governor of Shandong Province, Liu Feng, Vice President of China National Coal Association and Chairman of China Coal Society, and Li Wei, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Chairman of SDE, attended the opening ceremony and delivered respective speeches.

In his speech, Li Wei said that in recent years, SDE has conscientiously implemented the concept of green development, pushed for low-carbon transformation, expanded the new energy industry, and developed hydrogen energy. SDE has joined hands with Shandong Heavy Industry and Shandong Guohui Investment Holding Group to initiate the Shandong Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Industry Alliance, and worked with China University of Petroleum to set up Shandong Energy New Energy School. A new energy R&D innovation center is built and a number of core hydrogen production technologies are developed. SDE is taking the lead in building China’s first comprehensive energy supply station integrating "hydrogen, electricity, methanol, gas and oil", incubating a high-tech hydrogen energy company, and building the first high-temperature methanol fuel cell production line. By doing so, the hydrogen industry of SDE has taken off rapidly.

Li Wei said that under the “Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality” goal and the overall picture of enhancing national energy security, the hydrogen industry will embrace more major development opportunities. Ahead, SDE will uphold the mission of “creating green growth and leading energy transformation”, and rely on the by-product resources of hydrogen chemicals to improve hydrogen supply capacity. It is expected that the hydrogen supply capacity will reach 100,000 tons per year by 2025.

Relying on the New Energy R&D and Innovation Center, SDE will extend its industry chain to the downstream so as to cover hydrogen utilization and forge a complete hydrogen industry chain comprising production, storage, transportation as well as comprehensive utilization. Based on its new energy, coal chemicals, new materials and other industries, SDE will be committed to developing green electricity hydrogen production technologies and the relevant production equipment so as to form a industry chain of “renewable energy power generation → green hydrogen production → fuel cell → green chemicals”. In addition, SDE will distribute the integrated projects that features the coupling of green electricity hydrogen production and chemical industry at multiple locations so as to promote the coordinated development of new energy, hydrogen power, coal chemical industry and other industries, and contribute to the high-quality development of China's hydrogen energy industry and the realization of the “Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality” goal.

In the morning, Liu Zhongmin, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peng Suping, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), Xu Chunming, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), and Mao Zongqiang, vice president of International Association of Hydrogen Energy (IAHE) and professor of Tsinghua University made keynote presentations.

Chaired by Zhang Shaoqiang, Chairman of China Coal Processing & Utilization Association, the opening ceremony was also attended by Liu Qiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shandong Energy Committee and Vice General Manager of SDE.

The two-day conference caught attentions from industrial sectors of coal, electric power, petroleum, chemicals, metallurgy, transportation, aerospace, financing and securities as well as related research institutions and universities. Representatives from more than 30 Chinese Central SOEs attended the conference including CNPC, SINOPEC, CHN Energy, SPIC, Energy China, Power China, Dongfang Electric, CASC, and CRRC. Representatives from local SOEs. Shandong Heavy Industry, Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry and Hebei Iron and Steel, also attended the conference.
